It was screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Gangs of Wasseypur is an epic saga of bloodshed that rises from the small-town slums of industrial India, produced on an epic scale with a cast of thousands. It depicts two generations of a feuding family, starting from the early 1900s. The male descendants are steeped in violence and corruption, which continues to grow through the decades, reaching new levels with each generation. The story begins in 1897 with Dilawar Khan (Tigmanshu Dhulia), who lives in Wasseypur village along the banks of river Ganges in Bihar state. He is the leader of Pathans, a group of bandits whose business is stealing coal from train carriages. He has seven sons, who are the main characters in the story. The most important of them are Selima's husband Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee), Pervez Khan (Vineet Kumar Singh) and Ismail Khan (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub). The plot begins when Sardar gets married to Shamas-e-Tabassum alias Selima (Richa Chadda). She is pregnant and returns to her family home, only to find out that Sardar and his father have been kidnapped. She believes that Dilawar is responsible for their disappearance and sets out to pursue him. She encounters Ismail, the third son of Sardar Khan, who she believes is responsible for her husband's kidnapping. She convinces him to join her. Pandit (Rajkummar Rao), a disciple of pandit keerti (the village guru) escapes from jail on the insistence of his teacher Chanderbabu (Omi Vaidya). Two men on a motorcycle recognise Pandit as an escapee but Chanderbabu decides to avoid him on the streets of Wasseypur so as not to bring attention to his escape. It is revealed that Pandit has actually escaped to search for his long-lost mother. Finally, after many years of searching he arrives in Wasseypur and is recognised by the townspeople. His mother Sarpanch (Nandita Das), an influential woman who owns most of the real estate in Wasseypur, comes to know that her daughter is searching for her, she visits Shamas-e-Tabassum alias Selima (Richa Chadda) who tells her about Ismail (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub). She respects him as her elder brother and makes him understand that Pandit is not evil; rather he has become like his mother. cfa1e77820
